The world of e-commerce has undergone a significant shift in the realm of sales tax compliance. Prior to 2018, many online retailers and SaaS businesses could avoid paying sales tax to states where they had customers but no physical presence. However, as online shopping surged, states realized they were losing out on substantial tax revenue.
Recognizing the complexities and burden of sales tax compliance for e-commerce businesses, Rohit Bhadange, a veteran of venture capital and private equity, founded Zamp in 2022.
The rapid growth of Zamp has attracted significant investor interest, culminating in a $10 million Series A funding round led by Valor Equity Partners. The round also saw participation from notable investors such as Venus Williams, Day One Ventures, and others.
Beyond its direct e-commerce and SaaS clientele, Zamp has forged strategic partnerships with accounting firms facing challenges related to talent shortages and increased pressure to assist clients with sales tax compliance.
To further cater to the needs of accounting firms, Zamp has launched Z-tax, a new product designed to help accountants and bookkeepers effectively provide sales tax services to their clients without adding to their already strained resources.
While Zamp is not the only player in the market for sales tax compliance solutions, it has quickly gained traction and established itself as a force to be reckoned with. Its primary competitor is Anrok, backed by renowned venture capital firms such as Khosla Ventures and Sequoia.
