The demand for jobs in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) has been soaring globally, with India emerging as a leader in the AI job market. According to a SkyHive by Cornerstone report titled "Global State of the Skills Economy," India saw the highest demand for AI and ML jobs (4.1%) during January-July 2024, followed by Germany (2.5%), Japan (2.2%), and the US (2.1%).
The demand for GenAI skills is not limited to the tech industry. While software development and IT consulting are major drivers of this trend, industries such as financial services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and banking are also experiencing an increasing need for GenAI expertise.
Despite the surge in digital skills demand, the report emphasizes the enduring importance of human skills, or soft skills. Across all regions, the need for soft skills like leadership, communication, and emotional intelligence consistently outweighs the demand for digital skills.
The report highlights a significant increase in demand for remote and flexible work opportunities. This trend is particularly pronounced in countries like Australia (22.8%), Germany (21%), New Zealand (20.3%), the UK (18.8%), and the US (15%).
The report underscores the need for organizations and individuals to stay informed about the evolving skills landscape and adapt to the rapidly changing workforce. By staying ahead of trends, businesses can position themselves for success in the dynamic and competitive global marketplace.
